There are already two types of barcodes: the 1D, the kind you see on product packaging, and the 2D or what is more commonly called as the Quick Response or the QR code. It is a square, which consists of black and white jumbled blobs and is usually used in marketing campaigns and media.
Perhaps 2D codes are becoming more popular now because more and more people are sporting smart phones that have the ability to scan these QR codes. That is why businesses are currently taking this opportunity to incorporate QR codes into their products.
So, what are the ways that you can use QR codes to help in your business? Here are some examples to get those creative juices flowing:
Games / entertainment. QR codes can be used to keep consumers preoccupied in areas like waiting rooms where game demos can be distributed via QR codes. Music and videos can be downloaded for free as well.
Competitions. A QR code can immediately enter a consumer into a contest or take that person to a website where they can register for a contest.
Coupons. QR codes are a great way for you to distribute coupons to your clients. You can place it on your products, shelves or your signage outside of the store.
Product advice and information. Sometimes you may find QR codes on wine bottles. This is usually so that it will provide additional information about the wine or perhaps advice on what to pair the wine.
Advertising. Since QR codes can be easily made and printed, it is an excellent way to advertise your business. It can perhaps be printed on a t-shirt, napkins, receipts, a pet’s collar. Someone even went ahead and built it into a hotel.
